Master the Art of the "Sales Submarine": A Professional System for Closing Deals in 2026.

In the high-stakes world of sales, many professionals feel like they are performing a “dog and pony show,” constantly jumping through hoops for prospects only to face “let me think about it” at the end. Enjoy this throwback from a previous BioClean Operators Conference.

In this powerful session, Tyler Wruck of Sandler breaks down why this happens and introduces a better way: The Sandler Selling System, famously known as the Sandler Submarine.

Here is how you can use the Sandler Submarine to qualify hard, close easy, and take control of your sales process.

The Philosophy: Sales is a Noble Profession

Before diving into tactics, Wruck emphasizes a mindset shift. Sales isn’t about being subservient or “begging” for business. Success comes from the Success Triangle:

  • Attitude: Your belief in your product and yourself.
  • Behavior: The daily habits and goals you set.
  • Technique: The specific system you follow to get results.

Navigating the 7 Compartments of the Submarine

The “Submarine” represents a structured path. In a real submarine, if a compartment floods, you seal it off and don’t move forward. Sales should be the same.

  1. Bonding and Rapport

Rapport isn’t just “small talk.” It’s about meeting the prospect where they are. Wruck notes that communication is only 7% words—the rest is tonality and body language [00:19:03]. Effective sales involves mirroring these cues to build deep, “below the surface” trust.

  1. Upfront Contracting

This is the “secret sauce” of the system. To avoid “mutual mystification,” you must set clear expectations for every meeting. Using the ENOT acronym (Appreciate, Naturally, Obviously, Typically), you establish what will be discussed and agree that at the end of the meeting, a “yes” or a “no” is a perfectly acceptable outcome..

  1. Uncovering the “Pain”

People buy for emotional reasons, not logical ones. Wruck introduces the Sandler Pain Funnel, a series of eight questions designed to move a prospect from a surface-level “problem” to the deep-seated “pain” and its personal impact. If there is no pain, there is no sale.

  1. & 5. Budget and Decision

Before you ever present a solution, you must qualify the money and the process.

  • Budget: Do they have the funds, and are they willing to spend them?
  • Decision: Who else is involved? What is their timeline? What are the criteria for a “yes”?
  1. Fulfillment &Post-Sell

Only after the first five compartments are “sealed” do you move to Fulfillment (the presentation). By this point, the sale is almost a formality. Finally, the Post-Sell ensures there is no buyer’s remorse and sets the stage for future referrals.

Tyler Wruck’s Pro-Tips for Success

  • The 70/30 Rule: The prospect should be doing 70% of the talking. “Telling is not selling”.
  • Reversing: When a prospect asks a question, don’t just answer it. Use a “softening statement” and ask a question back to find out why they asked in the first place.
  • The “Dummy Curve”: Don’t be the “all-knowing expert” too early. Use phrases like “Can you help me understand?” to gather more information and let the prospect feel in control.

Conclusion

Stop the “unpaid consulting” and the endless follow-ups. By following a system like the Sales Submarine, you stop being a “vendor” and start being a professional consultant who provides real value.
